Kitchen remodels are no easy task.

Kitchens are often the centerpiece of a house. Everyone in the family uses them, guests often see them, and a good bit of time is spent in the kitchen. When people think to remodel their house, the kitchen is more times than not the first place they target. But remodeling a kitchen isn't as simple as picking a new one out from the store and bringing it home. You have to consider every aspect of the kitchen, from the floor to the ceiling and everything in between. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Overall Costs

    • According to CostHelper.com, the average kitchen remodeling job costs around $17,000 to $19,400. Going a little higher to a mid-scale remodel brings the price to the $50,000 range. Very upscale remodeling jobs can, and usually do, bring the cost up to over the $100,000 mark.

    Appliances

    • When finding new appliances, one must consider whether they want to merely upgrade the looks of their appliances, or if they want to upgrade their appliances all-together.

Your basic model refrigerator -- freezer on top of the fridge -- runs about $500 to $600. However, costs rise when you start to consider more upscale models. More upscale models include those with built in ice machines, more storage space and newer technology. Those units can bring the price to over $2,000, and even hit $4,000.

Most appliances run the same range as refrigerators, with basic models that on average go for a few hundred bucks, and top scale models that push prices to the multiple thousands.

    Counter Tops

    • The price of counter tops varies depending on the material you plan to use. Laminate, solid-surface and natural stone counter tops are measured by lineal feet, and range from $10 per foot to over $200 per foot. Ceramic tile, cement and stainless-steel counter tops are measured by the square foot, and can range from $10 per foot to over $100 per foot.

    Cabinets

    • Cabinets are the big boy of the kitchen remodeling job. More times than not, cabinets make up at least half of the cost of a kitchen remodeling job. When considering cabinets, you have to consider the finish, the door style, design style, material and if you want a stock style or custom cabinets. Cabinets are measured by linear feet, and can run anywhere from $50 per foot to $200 per foot and up.

Also, cabinets can have added features such as a wine rack. But, when considering customizing cabinets, note this: customizing your cabinets can run the price up to five times more than stock cabinets.

    Other Things to Consider

    • Please note that all prices listed are the costs of the items themselves, and do not cover things such as professional installation.

Also, if you plan to completely overhaul your kitchen and do things like add an island, some plumbing adjustments may be necessary, which brings in additional costs.
