The Purpose of a Tie Tack & Bar
Ties are a very popular accessory for men. They come in all kinds of different colors and styles. Bright red ties are often worn to denote power, while ties with humorous patterns can show that the wearer has a sense of humor (though not necessarily a good one). Ties can have their own accessories, too. Tie bars and tacks are two different tie accessories that have different looks but similar purposes. Does this Spark an idea?

Tie Bar
-
A tie bar's primary function is to attach your tie to your shirt. This keeps the tie from flopping around, getting blown by the wind, or accidentally ending up in your soup. The flat, long bar goes across the tie and clips into the middle of a button-down shirt.
Tie Tack
-
The tie tack is also meant to hold the tie in place. It does this by using a pin and a chain. The pin section pierces the tie. The back of the pin has a chain with a weight that goes through a button hole of the shirt.

Style
-
Another purpose of accessories like tie bars and tacks is style. A design or accent carried by a bar or tack can help tie an outfit together and delight the eye.
Membership
-
A tie bar is simple and elegant, but it can also denote membership in an organization. Some military squadrons use them, as well as student and educational groups like the FFA, Future Farmers of America.
Storage
-
A tie tack is a way to show off your flair for designs, but it can also be used to store small amounts of things. Gems, graphite for pencils, and small amounts of liquids have all been stored in tie tacks before.
