Replacement Information on Craftsman Tools

Broken hammers are replaceable in stores.

One of the reasons why many people buy Craftsman tools is because of their warranties. Their power tools have either one- or two-year warranties. Most of their hand tools, however, have a lifetime warranty and to receive a replacement, all a customer has to do is bring their broken tools into Sears. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. 1-Year Power Tool Warranty

    • Small power tools, such as power drills and reciprocating saws, have a one-year manufacturer's warranty. Their warranty covers only problems that are inherent in the product. They will not cover dropped or mishandled equipment.

    2-Year Large Engine Warranty

    • Craftsman lawn tractors, lawn mowers and other large motors have a two-year engine warranty, covering any inherent problems the motor may have. Any abuse the engine is put under at home would not be covered.

    Hand Tool Lifetime Warranty

    • Hammers, ratchets, sockets, rakes, screwdrivers and other small hand tools have a lifetime warranty. Any piece that breaks or stops working is covered. Take the broken product into Sears and the store will give you a replacement.

    1-Year Hand Tool Warranty

    • A few hand tools have a one-year warranty. The most common one-year hand-tool warranties are on torque wrenches. Only the cheapest torque wrench has a lifetime, whereas the rest of the torque wrenches have a one-year warranty.

    Extended Warranties

    • Any tool with an electric- or gas-powered motor can have its warranty extended with a Sears Purchase Protect Plan or a Protection Agreement. A Sears Purchase Protect Plan unconditionally covers Craftsman products with small motors for three full years. When a broken tool is under this warranty, the customer must call the 1-800 number on the receipt. Sears will send an empty prepaid box to the customer's house. The product is placed in the box and shipped. In roughly one week, the customer will receive a Sears gift card with the balance of the purchase price plus tax. A Protection Agreement covers large motors with either a home or shop warranty. A home Protection Agreement allows for a technician to come to the customer's house to repair the tool for free. A shop Protection Agreement tool must be brought to the store where it is serviced by Sears.
