Medical coding training helps you prepare for certification by teaching you the essentials of medical terminology and the topics you will need to know to pass the exam. If it is through a community college, for example, the certification will state that you passed all requirements for medical coding training by the community college.

In-class training is taught by a teacher in a classroom setting at a community college or training session through a third-party training organization. Other types of training include audio, video and multimedia materials in addition to books that you can study on your own.

You can take medical coder training courses at many local community colleges that offer courses for education and certification. There are also professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Professional Coders, that offer training. Another type of provider are organizations that specialize in training programs that offer courses and certification, such as Allied Medical School.

Cost

Costs vary by provider and type of training. For example, the AAPC provides online training for $1,725 for the Medical Billing Education course without the exam and a course for $1,925 for coding certification with the exam.
