When choosing the best face lift serum, look for proven active ingredients, such as retinoids (also known as retinol, retiny, or retinoic acid), alpha hydroxy acids, azelaic acid, growth factors, hydroquinone, kojic acid, peptides and salicylic acid.
However, beware of the term "clinically proven." This doesn't mean the product has been proven effective by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but simply that it was tested on a few individuals who liked the product.
Serums Under $30

Oil of Olay products are popular, inexpensive and can be found in almost any drug store. Their Regenerist Regenerating Serum contains the active ingredient amino peptides, and gives the skin a plumper, smoother look by generously hydrating the skin.
Another inexpensive option is MD Skincare's Hydra-Pure® Antioxidant Firming Serum, which contains retinol, and is nonoily and lightweight.

The effects of even the best fact lift serums are neither instantaneous nor permanent. The serums must be used continuously for a period of time. In addition, the products only give the appearance of increased firmness and reduced lines and wrinkles, usually by exfoliating dead skin and hydrating and plumping new skin cells.
Finally, always be sure to test products before using. Active ingredients such as retinol have been known to cause minor irritation.
