Cut Off Saw Safety
Cut off saws, or miter saws, make work easier. However, they can also be dangerous. Running a miter saw requires the operator to be alert and safe. Most of the safety precautions are simple, but if they are not followed correctly, serious injury could result.
-
Before Operation Instructions
-
Read the owner's manual to ensure that you have done everything that is required before turning the saw on. Inspect the saw for any problems like broken pieces. Check the power cord for any holes or cuts. Clean the work area so that nothing gets in the way during use.
Blade Safety
-
Do not use a dull blade as it may cause dangerous projectiles. Be sure that the blade is not vibrating. During a blade change, only use blades that have the correct arbor size to fit your saw. Any other size may cause serious harm or injury to you or the machine.
-
Secure the Saw
-
Make sure the saw is secure. Check the mounting areas for any loose connections. If the saw is clamped down, check the clamps.
Operating the Machine
-
Wear safety goggles and remove any loose clothing, necklaces or anything else that may get caught in the saw. Wear a dust mask to keep anything from going into your mouth. When the saw is turned on, wait for the motor to operate at full speed before use.
Cleaning Up After Use
-
Never leave the saw on. Keep it turned off by unplugging the power cord. Check the saw blade for any cuts or scratches that may harm the blade. Clean the blade if it is excessively dirty as dirt build-up can cause weaker performance. Clean the work area to prevent any workplace hazards.
