The assistant director of nursing services works under the director of nursing. The assistant director usually is second in command. Duties

  • The assistant director of nursing services manages supervisory and nursing support personnel. She may be responsible for ensuring all shifts are adequately staffed. As an assistant director of nursing, she may work with the director to identify and resolve departmental deficiencies with implemented correction plans. She may also identify and address any quality-assurance auditing issues. The assistant director of nursing may assist with making rounds during patient checks. This position also aids in coordinating nursing services programs within the department, reviews staff performance and ensures state standards of quality care are adhered to. Assistant directors of nursing services may also monitor nursing cost center budgets and ensure the department is functioning within federal state guidelines.

Qualifications

Candidates also need a thorough understanding of state, federal and local nursing services regulations. He will need experience in a clinical nursing setting, and as a manager or supervisor.
