Michigan Paralegal Salaries
One job search frustration is the lack of salary information to use for comparison and negotiation. For the early years of the 21st century, Michigan paralegals were fortunate to have a thorough, state-specific salary and benefit survey conducted and published on a biannual basis. However, 2006 was the last year for that survey. Available surveys for 2007 forward are, for the most part, not state-specific.

Michigan Paralegal Salary Surveys (2000 to 2006)
-
The first Special Counsel Michigan Legal Assistant (Paralegal) Salary and Benefit Survey was conducted in 2000. Subsequent surveys were conducted in 2002, 2004 and 2006. In 2000, nearly half of all respondents reported an annual base salary of $35,000 to $50,000. In both 2002 and 2004, a nearly identical percentage of respondents reported a salary of $40,000 to $60,000. More than 60 percent of respondents in the 2006 survey reported a salary exceeding $41,000, with 14 percent reporting a salary in excess of $60,000.
At the time they were first conducted and published, the complete Michigan surveys looked at trends in salaries, benefits, specialties, educational background, firm requirements and career goals throughout the state. They also contained detailed results for salary levels linked to type of employer, years of service, specialty and county of employment. As of March 2010, a PowerPoint presentation of the detailed results of the 2006 survey was available on the website of the Paralegal/Legal Assistant Section of the State Bar of Michigan.

Salaries have dropped from between .02% and 3.7% nationwide."
