Work as a teachers aid can be very rewarding.

If you are looking for a teachers aid job and about to write your resume, there are certain facts about constructing your job descriptions that you should be aware of. Out of the three main resume formats (chronological, functional and technical), it is generally only the chronological format that requires a job description. The technical format is for jobs dealing with IT or engineering. The functional format focuses on skills, rather than past work.

  1. The How and What of Job Descriptions

    • Be sure your previous jobs are listed by the most current first. List school name, location and dates worked. A job you are currently in should be written about in the present tense; all other jobs should be written in the past tesne. Focus on skills you demonstrated and notable accomplishments. Provide details such as class size, use of multimedia and whether you dealt with special needs.

    Text

    • If you can come up with about five lines of text or less, consider using bullet points to emphasize each fact you are presenting. If you have more text, describe your daily duties and responsibilities and then create a bulleted section, entitled, "Notable Achievements" or "Key Accomplishments" and use bullet points to highlight about five of your most notable facts within your job description.

    Job Description Example

    • For example, you might write a job description for the job you are currently in, as follows: "Team with head teacher in a class of 34 third graders to create and implement lesson plans. Utilize multimedia including software, video, audio and diverse art forms to teach appropriate level math, English, science, reading, writing and physical education. Lead class in absence of teacher. Contact parents to detail child's outstanding academic achievements as well as to deal with discipline issues."

    Bulleted Points

    • If you have facts, numbers or accomplishments to highlight, bullet such phrases as "Raised class standardized math test scores from 85 percent to 96 percent via individual tutoring," or "Aided in becoming first class in school to partner via video conference with a third grade class in Paris."

    Job Description Details

    • Your job description should not be more than half a page. A resume is meant to be a brief summary of your career highlights and a marketing tool to impress an employer. Any job description longer than ten lines of text should be broken up into paragraphs with a line of space between them. Long novels in a job description will not get read; short pieces are more likely to be examined by an employer.
