An adminstrative church pastor keeps things running.

An Administrative Pastor is responsible for the non-ministry aspects of running a church. As such, they don't preach in front of a congregation as much as other pastors. Instead they are focused on the day-to-day tasks of running the church. This involves keeping up to date on what is going on at all times throughout the church. An Administrative Pastor may also be referred to as an Executive Pastor.

  1. Role

    • The Administrative Pastor is responsible for keeping a calendar of church events. He will assign rooms for the various groups that choose to meet at church. He proofs the newsletter and gets it published in a timely manner. He will use a variety of methods to attract and retain new church members. He runs the website and oversees any changes made to it.

    Church Staff

    • The Administrative Pastor oversees the church staff such as secretaries, custodians, receptionists, officer manager, building administrator, bookstore employees and other pastors. She will need to evaluate employee job performance and provide feedback. She will plan retreats for church staff. She will fill in as needed in the preaching rotation. She may also need to fill in for other pastors as needed. She will need to manage the benefits packages of paid church staff.

    Volunteers

    • An Administrative Pastor is responsible for coordinating and managing church volunteers. This may include but is not limited to greeters, ushers, money counters, Sunday school and confirmation leaders, and choir leaders. He is required to recruit and train all volunteers. He will need to find adequate substitutes when volunteers are unable to fulfill their obligation.

    Community

    • The Administrative Pastor needs to have his pulse on the community. He is responsible for knowing the needs and providing solutions to help the community. This may mean running food drives, collecting donations of household items, sponsoring mission trips and providing meals to those in need among other things. He will also need to recruit congregation members to participate in community events. He will need to have a passion for serving the needs of the community and reaching out to those who need it most.

    Finance

    • The Administrative Pastor is responsible for managing the operating costs of the church. This requires creating a budget and getting it approved by the church's board of directors or church counsel. She will need to pursue financing options should the church fail to meet its budgetary constraints. She must have a solid understanding of finance, accounting and bookkeeping skills.
