Gulf Shores is a popular visitor's destination on the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf Shores area is littered with hotels, condominiums and beach houses. One problem with staying on the beach in Gulf Shores is that lodging can cost hundreds of dollars per night. Gulf Shores offers more than a dozen RV parks and campgrounds that offer beachfront camping and easy access to the beach for a fraction of the cost of other lodging.

    • The Gulf Shores area offers more than a dozen RV parks and campgrounds. Most of the campgrounds are not on the beach, but are within walking distance or a short drive to the beach. Fort Morgan, which is located about 10 miles from Gulf Shores, also offers several campgrounds and is a state park that provides beachfront camping.

    Rates

    • Camping rates at the RV parks and campgrounds in the Gulf Shores area average around $20 per night for those not on the beach and $40 per night for beachfront facilities (as of April of 2010). These rates are still often less than one-tenth of the average nightly rate at the area's beachfront hotels. The campgrounds that do have beachfront sites also offer sites that are off the beach for around $20 per night.

    • All of the RV parks and campgrounds in the Gulf Shores area offer bath, shower and laundry facilities. The beach is the main attraction at these campgrounds, so almost all of the facilities that are not located on the beach feature a swimming pool for campers. All of the campgrounds offer full electric and water connections, but a few of the facilities do not have sewer connections.

    • During the winter months of November through February, Gulf Shores remains relatively warm. The average high temperatures in Gulf Shores during the winter months hovers close to 70 degrees, while the average lows range in the 40s. Staying dry while camping in Gulf Shores can be a problem, as there are eight months when the average precipitation is more than five inches.

    Attractions

    • In case visitors to Gulf Shores need more to do than spend time at the beach, the area offers a variety of entertainment options. Gulf Shores has at least five golf courses in the area and amusement parks with miniature golf for kids. Gulf Shores also has several water parks for those who want to slip and slide. Parasailing is another attraction that is common in Gulf Shores, as there are a variety of outfitters that offer the activity along the city's beaches.
