You must obtain a marriage license from an authorized agent to be lawfully married in the state of Hawaii. The legal age is 18 years for both male and female. Younger individuals will need parental consent. There are no state residence requirements or requirements of U.S. citizenship. Both the prospective husband and wife must appear together before a marriage license agent to apply. No proxies are allowed. Photo IDs are required. The fee for the license is $60 (cash), and it is good throughout the state of Hawaii. The license is valid for 30 days after which it expires. It can be obtained at 1250 Punchbowl Street, Room 101, Honolulu, Hawaii. Telephone number is 808-586-4544. Allow two to three weeks for the paperwork to be completed.

It is best to determine ahead of time how much you can budget for your wedding. It could include just the wedding ceremony or it could be as elaborate as a luau or formal dining. Keep in mind that weddings performed on the island of Oahu will be less expensive since there is more competition. You could get married on Oahu and then escape to another island for the honeymoon. Be sure to plan well and include all incidental expenses. You can order wedding services a la carte, including minister, photographer, floral services, limousine services, catering, singer or harpist and wedding video. You can also purchase wedding packets that include a combination of these services.

The Turtle Bay and Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu are away from the city traffic and quite secluded. Another beautiful private location for weddings with over 20 guests is Paradise Cove. Chapel weddings can be scheduled at the Princess Lagoon Chapel, Central Union, First Christian and Primarrie Church. There are several venues available for your wedding on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.
