Supra Turbo Information
In 1979, the Supra nameplate was officially adopted by Toyota on the Celica Supra. It was not until the introduction of the third generation of Supras, in 1986, that Toyota fully separated the Celica and Supra nameplates. One year later, in 1987, the first Toyota Supra Turbo was offered.

1987 to 1988 models

The 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo was powered by a turbocharged, intercooled, 3.0-liter, in-line six-cylinder engine. The engine produced 230 horsepower and 246 foot-pounds of torque. The 1998 model year had minor sound-dampening modifications to the engine. The 230 horsepower engine could run the Supra from zero to 60 miles per hour in the mid-seven seconds.
1989 to 1992 Models

In 1989, the Supra Turbo received modifications to the turbocharger and engine tuning designed to refine the wastegate and intake. These adjustments resulted in a power increase of two horsepower and eight foot-pounds of torque. The turbocharged 3.0-liter engine was capable of producing 232 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 254 foot-pounds of torque at 3,200 rpm. The turbocharged engine could propel the Supra from zero to 60 miles per hour in 6.2 seconds and to 100 miles per hour in 16.3 seconds. The standing quarter-mile could be run in 14.7 seconds.

1993 to 1998 Models

The fourth-generation Toyota Supra Turbo was introduced in 1993, with notable changes to the body and performance. Power was derived from a sequential twin-turbocharged 24-valve in-line 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. The engine was capable of producing 320 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 315 foot-pounds of torque at 4,000 rpm. Sub-five-second zero to 60 mile per hour times per possible and the top speed was electronically limited by Toyota to 155 miles per hour.

In the 2001 movie, The Fast and the Furious, a 1995 Toyota Supra Turbo makes an appearance alongside Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. In a Los Angeles underground street-racing culture, the Supra is selected to by Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) to be customized into a 10-second quarter-mile car.

The first Toyota prototype, A1, was introduced in 1935. Over the 25 years that followed, Toyota grew in size and expanded into new markets, including the United States.
