Job Description for an AVID Coordinator


The AVID, advancement via individual determination, program helps students prepare for college. AVID coordinators identify and mentor students in elementary, middle and high school who have the desire to enter college. Coordinators work with schools to implement AVID programs and to serve the needs of targeted students.


  • AVID coordinators may be responsible for developing documentation and assessing training needs in conjunction with AVID methodologies. Coordinators also may provide support and assist with ongoing staff development. Potential candidates will organize activities and curriculum along with secondary school personnel. Coordinators may be required to collaborate with colleagues on development of workshops and services that support AVID. They may also work closely with students and their counselors through the college admission process. AVID coordinators may be required to work independently or with a team of educators.


  • Potential AVID coordinators should be knowledgeable about state specific subject area curriculum, development strategies and program resources. Potential AVID coordinators should possess skills necessary to monitor and evaluate all program expenditures.
