Job Description for Senior Crime Prevention Coordinator
A senior crime prevention coordinator works within a law enforcement setting. She educates individuals, business and community groups in all aspects of a city's crime prevention. This will include providing crime statistics, delivering talks on crime prevention and providing day-to-day response of the police department. She will work with the community to decrease crime by educating them on the steps they can take to prevent being a victim. She may also create and delivery community initiatives designed at preventing crime. Her work in this role will seek to increase the community's quality of life by making it a safer place for all.

Qualifications

While a senior crime prevention coordinator is generally a civilian position, some like to have a sworn officer or a retired officer fill this position. The incumbent must be savvy in the techniques used to prevent crime and to educate others on how to go about this in a residential and business setting. He needs to be proficient at using office equipment such as a personal computer. He must be comfortable preparing multimedia programs using software such as PowerPoint. He will need to be comfortable with spreadsheet software such as Excel. He should have excellent communication skills and excel at speaking in front of large groups.
Requirements

A senior crime prevention coordinator should have completed at least an associate's degree in criminal justice, business, public administration or communications. Some agencies may accept an associate's degree in some other closely related field. In addition, a valid driver's license is required. She will also need to be able to obtain CPR certification within one year of the hired date.

A senior crime prevention coordinator's job relies heavily on public relations. She must build a rapport with the community and bridge the gap between law enforcement and the people it serves. To do this, she must be comfortable not only speaking in front of groups but also soliciting donations for crime prevention funds and programs.
Schedule

A senior crime prevention coordinator must be flexible to meet the demands of the job. While many times he will have standard work hours, there will be times when he is expected to work nights, weekends and possibly holidays to meet the needs of the constituents.
Environment

In addition to working in an office setting, a Senior Crime Prevention Coordinator may be required to work in a variety of other settings. She must attend chamber of commerce meetings and network with business owners. She may also be required to speak at businesses within the community. She is expected to attend block parties devoted to preventing crime. It is anticipated that she will be present at crime prevention fairs.
