Twinings Green Tea has a golden color and mild taste.

Tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world. Hundreds of millions of people drink green tea daily for its refreshing quality, mild caffeine perk and wide array of health benefits. Twinings Green Tea, made from the unfermented leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, has a mild taste and golden color when brewed. Twinings offers pure green tea as well as blended teas to appeal to health conscious and quality-focused consumers. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Company History

    • Founded in London in 1706 by Thomas Twining, Twinings of London popularized tea drinking in Regency England, a habit that soon spread to its American colonies. In 1837, Queen Victoria granted Twinings the Royal Warrant, and the company began supplying her and all successive British monarchs with tea. Tea prices fell throughout the nineteenth century, making tea affordable for nearly everyone. Most recently, the company introduced proprietary blends of herbal teas, flavored black teas and green teas for health conscious consumers.

    Health Benefits

    • According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, green tea contains high concentrations of polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants counteract the cell damage caused by substances in the environment called free radicals, which can alter human cell structure and lead to cancers and other diseases. Researchers believe that the polyphenols in green tea can neutralize these damaging factors.

Green tea may also help to prevent coronary artery disease and high cholesterol; reduce inflammation associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD); control blood sugar in people with diabetes; protect the liver and assist weight loss.

    Twinings Green Tea Ingredients

    • Twinings Green Tea contains the crushed leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Green tea and black tea come from the same plant, but the leaves are processed in different ways, resulting in the variations in color, taste and aroma. During tea production, the leaves of green tea are heated to prevent oxidation, while leaves for black tea are oxidized for a darker color and stronger flavor.

    Characteristics

    • When brewed, Twinings green tea produces a golden color and light, minimally tannic flavor. Twinings Green Tea is "sencha" style, characterized by smooth and mild drinkability.

    Varieties

    • In addition to pure green tea, Twinings offers green teas blended with flowers, fruits and herbs. Jasmine Green Tea combines the tea's mild taste with a delicate jasmine scent, while Chamomile Green Tea features a soothing effect and aroma. Lemon Green Tea, Mint Green Tea and Cranberry Green Tea blend the traditional tea leaves with dried herbs and fruits for an additional kick of flavor. Gunpowder Green Tea, a popular variety in Asia, blends green teas in loose (not bagged) form.

    Retailers

    • Supermarkets, drugstores, specialty tea and coffee retailers and gift shops sell Twinings Green Tea. It is also commonly available freshly brewed in cafes and restaurants. All varieties except the Gunpowder Green Tea are sold in boxes of 20 tea bags; the Gunpowder variety is sold loose in a 100g tin.
