To gain acceptance to a nursing school you will need a high school diploma and stand out from other candidates with a strong academic background that has prepared you for a future career in nursing. Take as many science classes as you can. At an accredited nursing school you'll take various science classes and gain experience working in a hospital. These skills will prepare you to take a national exam to become a registered nurse. In high school, you can prep for the nursing college experience by taking as many science classes as you can. Classes in biology, physics and chemistry will give you a strong foundation for the harder science classes you'll take in college.

Most accredited nursing schools offer a four-year bachelor of science in nursing program, a two-year associate degree in nursing program and a two-year hospital diploma. It is good preparation for college to know what program you want to enter to save time and money.

Figure out how you will pay for school. Each school has different tuition and scholarships available, but it's important to know how you will pay for nursing school before entering the program. If you will need financial aid to help pay for school you need to apply while still in high school. You can also apply for scholarships while in high school.

Get your application ready. While still in high school you can prep for nursing school by finding out the time frame for applying to colleges. You should start preparing the application weeks, if not months, in advance. You'll need to gather your high school transcript and you may be asked to write an essay.
