Double Edge Razor Problems
When a man stumbles into the bathroom in the morning half awake, the last thing he needs to worry about is whether his razor is going to be safe and work right. Double-edge razors have a lot of advantages over other razor types that can reduce shaving issues, but they still have problems of their own. When a man needs to guarantee that he'll get a good shave, he should know what the problems with double-edge razors are so that he can decide whether one will suit him. Does this Spark an idea?

Pivoting
-
Some manufacturers of razors have designed their razors with pivoting heads. This gives a man much better control over the pressure he exerts on his face with the blade because the head can adjust to the contours of the skin. However, not all double-edge razors are made this way. They often have heads that are set in place. The double-edge razor with this design becomes insensitive to how much pressure is put on the handle, and the wrist has to do all the movement to follow facial features.
Adjustability
-
Hair can grow at different angles on the face. This, combined with the contours of the face, means that a close, even shave requires shifts in the angle of the blade. Not all double-edge razors are designed so that the blade angle can be adjusted.

Pressure
-
Unlike other razor types, double-edge razors require very little pressure. A lighter touch while shaving can be hard to develop, especially if a person is used to a heavier razor.
Lathering
-
Double-edge razors require shaving creams. This can be more expensive than using other razor types that can be used on dry skin, especially until a man finds the cream that works well with his skin, razor and water types. The cost gets higher the more lathering needs to be done; on average, a double-edge razor shave needs at least three lathers.
Luxury Items
-
A man who opts for a double-edge razor might spend quite a bit in accessories, such as a stand for the razor, a shaving cream bowl and a cream applicator brush. Although many of these items are one-time purchases, they can represent the cost of dozens of disposable blades.
Considerations
-
Double-edge razors clearly have some issues. However, these issues do not negate the advantages double-edge razors have, such as cheaper, longer lasting, more easily recycled blades and a cutting method that diverges from the traditional "tug and hack" system of cartridge razors. These advantages need to be considered in conjunction with the disadvantages before a decision about the use of a double-edge razor can be made.
