Uses of Ambien

Ambien is the brand name of a prescription medication used for short term treatment of sleeplessness, also known as insomnia. The generic name of the medication is zolpidem. Ambien is classified as being a sedative and a hypnotic and operates by focusing on the brain's chemicals that are unbalanced and lead to sleeplessness. Ambien brings upon feelings of relaxation, which makes it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep. A doctor might prescribe Ambien if you have been suffering from persistent sleeplessness for a period of a few months. Prescriptions are often given for a time frame of about six months or sometimes less.

  1. Primary Use

    • Ambien enables you to rapidly fall asleep within approximately 15 minutes to half an hour. Because the pill operates quickly it is recommended that you take it only when ready for sleep. Ambien is also used to help you wake up less through the night.

    Additional Bonus

    • Apart from helping you fall asleep quickly and stay asleep, Ambien assists in improving concentration the next day because you will be rested.

    Minor Side Effects

    • Ambien may cause minor side effects including blurry vision, forgetfulness, amnesia, nausea, unusual or realistic dreams, constipation, coordination loss, drowsiness during the day, lightheadedness, weakness, dizziness, sore throat, stuffy nose, muscle pain and headache. These side effects usually fade quickly as the body adjusts to the Ambien. However, if they are causing trouble for you, you need to let your doctor know as soon as possible.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Use of Ambien can also lead to some severe side effects as well. With serious effects it is crucial to seek emergency medical attention immediately. These side effects are aggression, agitation, restless, anxiety, nervousness, confusion, disorientation, personality loss, hallucinations, suicidal feelings, depression, lack of fear, loss of inhibition, risky behavior and strange thoughts.

    Overdose

    • You should take Ambien exactly as prescribed. Never take more or less than your appropriate dosage. If you are worried that you might have exceeded your recommended dose, you need to get emergency medical assistance. Some symptoms of Ambien overdose include lightheadedness, shallow breathing, confusion, sleepiness, passing out and coma.
