Compatibility Issues
-
Before downloading and installing Java, it is important to make sure that your computer has the right system requirements. For example, Java is best installed on a computer that has at least 64MB of RAM. It is available for multiple operating systems such as Windows, Linux and Solaris. Java is not available for Mac OS X systems. Java will also work best on a web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. Attempting to download and install Java on a computer that lacks the adequate requirements will likely cause an error during the download process.
Firewall
-
A firewall is a security program such as an Internet Filter installed on a computer to prevent network intrusions and remove malicious files like spyware and viruses. Firewall programs can also prevent Java from downloading and installing especially if the settings are higher than normal. If the configurations are not properly set on your firewall program, you can expect that it will block Java from accessing the download server to complete the download and installation process.

Error Codes
-
Many different error codes pop up when you attempt to download and install Java. A 1500 code error generally appears when another another installation is progress at the same time with the Java installation. A 1722 error usually pops ups when there is a problem with the Windows installer package. It is an InstallShield error code. The 2755 and 1624 error codes appear when the installation has failed because there is a problem with the network connection or a spyware removal tool (e.g. teatimer.exe) is interfering with the installation.
Browser Problems
-
Incorrect browser settings and browser problems will also cause problems when downloading and installing Java. ActiveX applications for example are components that make a web browser more interactive. When the ActiveX control is disabled on the Internet Options console, Java may fail to download or run into browser problems if you do manage to install it. A corrupt and outdated web browser can also cause download problems, especially if it lacks the necessary components necessary to run the version of Java you are downloading.
Solution
-
Lower your firewall to default settings to minimize connection problems when downloading Java. Check your Internet connection if the downloading suddenly stops and you see frequent "Web display errors." This could mean there is a problem with your network or hardware. Enable the ActiveX components in the Internet console and restart your web browser. Try downloading and installing Java again. Update your web browser whenever possible so that it has the necessary components to communicate with ActiveX components.
