Keep the tools out of reach of children when supervision is not possible. Removing the saw and allowing your child to use only pre-cut pieces of lumber may be an even safer choice until you feel comfortable letting her use the saw.

Adult assistance will be needed for first-time carpenters, especially for attaching hinges and handles. Upon completion of the project, invite your child to paint and decorate it. Woodworking and carpentry help teach children the basic carpentry skills needed to fix small problems in the home when they are older. Projects also give many kids a sense of accomplishment and teach them that they are able to set a goal and reach it.
