Laser Tech Training
Laser technicians, or laser techs, operate laser equipment in a wide variety of industries and settings. Some applications for lasers include hair removal, surgical and cosmetic procedures, research laboratories, and private industries. Laser tech training prepares you to operate laser equipment and understand the effects and safety of lasers. Certification and degree programs are offered through the National Laser Institute and other colleges and technical schools.

Time frame for obtaining certification or an Associate's degree depends on the accrediting agency and program. For example, a certification can be obtained in as little as 8 days or 64 hours according to the National Laser Institute. Associate degree programs generally can take up to 2 years of full-time coursework to complete.
Misconceptions

Common misconceptions of laser technician training includes being at a desk or laboratory exclusively during coursework. Laser technician training does involve some desk work, but also involves field work that takes students to sites. Another misconception of laser technician training is that the area of study includes math and science but excludes english and writing. In fact, strong writing skills are essential to the job and training because laser technicians often write technical reports as part of the job.

The cost for a single course can be expensive with most courses starting at a minimum of $750 and going upwards of almost $9,000 per course.
