Moving truck rental services offer options for renters planning their move.

For those planning on moving to another state, the other side of their city or even to the other side of the country, renting a truck and moving belongings themselves is an option that offers convenience. Comparing available services offered by truck-rental companies is the first step in deciding on which firm is the right one for your moving needs.

  1. U-Haul

    • U-Haul is a familiar name when it comes to truck rental. U-Haul offers pickup trucks and five different sizes of moving vans. Features include towing capabilities, a special section inside trucks for things that might be fragile, a short ramp and items like mirrors, air bags and seat belts for the cab. Those interested in renting a truck need to have a regular driver's license and be at least 18 years of age. According to U-Haul, round trips mean paying less than $50 for a vehicle and less than a dollar per mile. Those going one way--depending on the distance--will pay a set rate anywhere from $100 to more than $1,000.

    Budget Truck

    • Budget Truck Rental is an option that catches the attention of movers watching their wallets. Regular pickup trucks aren't available, but cargo vans are. Budget trucks range in size from 10-foot to 24-foot vehicles. Renters interested in a truck can expect amenities in the cab such as an AM/FM stereo, air conditioning, seat belts and mirrors. Larger moving trucks have a loading ramp, lift gate and tow hitch available, and all trucks have power steering and power breaks. Round trips mean a fixed cost for a vehicle plus an additional fee per mile. For those planning a one-way trip, prices can run into the hundreds or a little over $1,000 depending on distance, and extra supplies incur further costs.

    Penske Truck Rental

Benefits of choosing to rent a Penske moving truck include AM/FM stereos with CD players, power steering, antilock brakes, automatic transmission, mirrors, interior lighting, roll-up doors and loading ramps. Prices vary from a several hundred dollars to more than $1,000 depending on the distance of travel and type of truck. Additional moving materials--such as blankets or hand trucks--are extra.

    Enterprise Truck

    • Pickup trucks, cargo vans, and box trucks ranging in size from 10 to 24 feet all come with roadside assistance at Enterprise Trucks. Trucks include air conditioning, automatic transmission, power steering, power breaks and gas or diesel engines. Loading ramps are installed on larger trucks, and movers needing roadside assistance can expect repairs to be completed on the side of the road any time of day or night when a repair might be needed. According to Enterprise locations, which can be found through the Enterprise website, costs vary greatly based on type of move, size of truck and distance.
