Online EMT Paramedic Training
Deciding to train for a new career can change your life. Online courses, with the flexibility they offer, are becoming popular alternatives to traditional classroom courses for many people.

EMT Paramedics
-
Paramedics, or emergency medical technicians (EMTs), provide a valuable service to the community. During medical emergencies, EMTs provide care to injured people en route to the hospital. This care can include everything from wound treatment to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, depending on the training and certification of the EMT.
EMT Training
-
Each state has slightly different requirements when it comes to EMT certification, but all paramedics must complete training that includes coursework, equipment training and hands-on experience. To become certified, an EMT must successfully pass a written test as well as a field exam.
To prepare for the written exam, many companies, as well as schools, offer online courses and training. Keep in mind that not all states recognize this type of training as valid, however. Check the requirements for your state before enrolling, and find a course that is accredited by the state where you wish to receive your EMT license.

Finding the Right Online Course
-
Many online schools, including Kaplan University and University of Phoenix, offer EMT training courses. Traditional EMT training can last from two months for a recertification course to six years to obtain the highest certification level. While some hands-on training and experience must be completed in person, aspects of EMT training and preparation can be completed online.
Online courses allow you to learn at your own pace and at times that work with your schedule. But if you do decide to enroll in an online course, you will probably be required to complete an internship locally to gain the hands-on experience you will need to successfully pass your certification test.
Cost and Financial Aid
-
As can be expected, prices for online courses vary by company and by the type of EMT certification course. Most programs start at about $500 for a basic online course, plus the cost of books and other materials. Most companies and schools that offer these courses also have reduced tuition and financial aid programs available for students who meet income criteria.
Making the Choice
-
Online EMT-paramedic training courses can make obtaining EMT certification easier for people with busy schedules. When making your decision, research different courses thoroughly, keeping in mind the accreditation, cost and financial aid options of each.
