Job Description of a Church Wedding Coordinator
A wedding coordinator is an event specialist for brides and grooms. She is charged with overseeing big details (such as the date of the wedding) to small details (such as the length of ribbon used to tie the wedding bouquet). A church wedding coordinator has the added responsibility of respecting the sanctity of the church. Some church wedding coordinators are volunteers while others work on a paid part-time or full-time basis.

Introduction
-
A wedding coordinator must understand the desires of the engaged couple. Wedding coordinators meet with prospective clients in an effort to establish the range of services available within a given budget and schedule. Church wedding coordinators sometimes serve as gatekeepers by only accepting couples who satisfy the requirements of the church. Some churches, such as the Grace Episcopal Church in New York City, require that either the bride or groom-to-be are recognized members of the church's faith.
Scheduling
-
Church wedding coordinators schedule the wedding rehearsal, the wedding itself and the on-site reception, if necessary. Some churches require premarital counseling with a clergy member. The Vineyard Church of Ann Arbor requires that couples wishing to be married at the church complete a premarital inventory that provides an assessment of compatibility and/or relationship building exercises. A church wedding coordinator takes into account the time of worship services and other religious activities when scheduling wedding-related events.

Church Rules
-
Many churches have rules regarding what is allowed to take place at wedding ceremonies. Some faiths prohibit certain activities or items. The Macedonia Baptist Church in Longview, Texas does not allow smoking, alcohol consumption or dancing in the church. Church wedding coordinators are responsible for informing the engaged couple of the church's rules and enforcing these rules.
Rehearsals
-
Church wedding coordinators lead wedding rehearsals where the bride, groom, officiant and all members of the wedding party come together to do a practice run of the entire wedding ceremony. The church wedding coordinator schedules the rehearsal and provides guidance throughout the event. The Woodlands United Methodist Church in Woodlands, Texas provides a wedding coordinator for one hour of wedding rehearsal practice.
Ceremonies
-
The main job of a church wedding coordinator is to direct the wedding itself. Church wedding coordinators are on site during wedding ceremonies to ensure timeliness, respond to last minute changes and monitor adherence to church rules.
