Silverado SS Information
The Chevrolet Silverado SS was a line of performance trucks (often dubbed "sport trucks") built between 2003 and 2007. The "SS" label stood for "Super Sport," a term that has been used on many performance oriented GM models in the past. The Silverado SS sport truck was in a class that included the Dodge SR-10 Viper Ram and the Ford Lightning.

The Chevrolet Silverado SS was preceded by the Chevrolet 454 SS, which was produced in limited numbers between 1990 and 1993. The 454 SS was only built in single cab configuration. The truck came with a 7.4L (454 cubic-inch) V8 that produced 255 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. It was capable of reaching 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, according to Car and Driver magazine.

The Silverado SS came with GM's 6.0L V8 engine; it produced 345 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The Silverado SS could reach 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, according to Car and Driver road tests. It completed a quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds and had a top speed of 109 mph.

The Silverado SS's dimensions are the same as the standard Silverado model. The truck had a wheelbase of 143.5 inches, an overall length of 227.6 inches and a width of 81.5 inches.
The Silverado SS was rated at 12 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway, compared to 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway for the standard model.
A four-speed automatic transmission was standard; a manual transmission was not available on the SS. All-wheel drive was standard on 2004 and 2005 models and optional on others.
Pricing and Equipment

The Silverado SS had a base price of $39,995 when new. Features such as power windows, locks, mirrors and seats were standard, as was a Bose sound system. Heated leather seating, automatic climate control and a multi-disc CD player were some optional features.
Discontinuation

A 2007 Chevy Silverado SS (dubbed the SS Classic) was released when Chevrolet introduced the redesigned Silverado (GMT900) model for the latter part of the 2007 model year. However, the truck was still built on the previous generation's chassis. An SS model was not released after 2007.
