A front desk manager is generally in charge of everything that goes on in the front desk. This person will hire and train new people for the front desk. They will make sure that everything runs properly and that everything is organized. This person must be able to oversee the operation along with the profits of the business. There are many responsibilities and duties that come with this job title. A front desk manager could work at a hotel, motel, fitness center or doctor's office.

  1. Job Duties

    • A front desk manager has many duties to perform. Hiring and firing new employees is a major duty. A front desk manager will also have to make sure that all new employees are fully trained and able to perform their job. This position requires you to lead this customer service team. Answering questions, taking difficult telephone calls, analyzing the front desk budget, setting schedules and welcoming guests are a few duties that this job entails.

    Responsibilities

    • Front desk manager is responsible for communicating with all other departments in regard to the front desk department; conduct department meetings regularly; cover all shifts that are open; deal with all complaints from customers; and reporting all manners to the hotel director. The biggest responsibility is to supervise over the front desk clerks. Each day, the front desk manager is required to monitor all finances at the front desk.

    Skill Requirements

    • You must be a highly motivated person to qualify for this job. It requires a lot of attention and time. The perfect person for this job must be able to work any shift or day of the week; have great communication and manager skills; and must be highly organized. This position requires plenty of patience with people and understanding. You will need a strong personality with leadership skills that shine.

    Education and Experience

    • Most companies will require that you have customer service and management experience. Some will require that you have a high school diploma and some college. Computer skills are required for this position. Typing skills are required. You must be able to read and write in the language the company requires. A degree in hotel or hospitality management will likely give you a better opportunity.

    Hiring

    • Many different companies hire front desk managers. You will find fitness centers, motels, doctor's offices and many other business offices that acquire the need for a front desk manager. Depending upon the place you live, you are looking at a median salary. According to Salary.com, you could make up to $40,000 a year, as of 2010.
