Road Runner ISPs also include Newsgroup services.

Road Runner is a national Internet service provider (ISP) owned by Time-Warner Inc. Road Runner provides Internet service and programs through integrated packages for newsgroup portals, links and information. The Road Runner newsgroup servers are an extension of the old Electronic Bulletin Board System (EBBS) system, which posted newsworthy events daily through email servers.

  1. Video and Audio Files

    • Road Runner newsgroup users have the ability to load audio and video to their response and postings in the newsgroup. Because of the size of most video and audio files, the distribution of these files can slow down the server causing slower response time. Road Runner states only compressed videos with the .AVI extension and standard should be loaded to newsgroup portals.

    DNS Server Problems

    • Road Runner Domain Name Servers (DNS) are geographically located in different parts of the United States. These servers have their own Internet protocol addresses. The servers, which are owned by the parent company, Time-Warner Communications, are servers that prioritize the cable operations for television subscription packages. The Internet or newsgroup service is an added component. If there is too much traffic through these servers, the speed of the network is downgraded, meaning access to the newsgroup server is affected. Users have discovered success by using a different Internet Protocol (IP) settings for their newsgroup accounts.

    Microsoft Outlook 2003 and 2007

    • The newsgroup program has parameters for inclusion into the Microsoft Office program (versions 2003 and 2007). Parameters address communication port issues for the sending and receiving of newsgroup data. If the parameters are not working, clear the parameters and re-input the information again. Parameter problems originate from Road Runner newsgroup servers not updating the sub-account group tables in a timely manner.

Extracting Email Messages for Road Runner

    • Newsgroup portals can provide a way to extract emails from members in the group that want to correspond with each other over a topic of interest. Road Runner newsgroup servers contains errors that won't allow users to send or receive comments and messages to newsgroup members. The best solution is to download a third party newsgroup response email as a plug-in and use the program with Road Runner.

Applications That Work with Road Runner Newsgroup

    • Applications that work with Road Runner newsgroup are Microsoft Office 2007 and Mozilla's Thunderbird email client. With the exception of speed problems, these applications provide solid program features for newsgroup users through menu systems that are automatically designed for sharing other types of information or "snippets" of data.
