How to Reinstall & Repair Open Office
OpenOffice.org is a free, Open-Source office suite that rivals Microsoft Office. OpenOffice works with documents, spreadsheets, graphics, databases, and presentations. It can open and import Microsoft Office files (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint files). OpenOffice.org functions on operating systems such as Windows, Linux, Unix, OS 10 and Sun Solaris. Anyone can use OpenOffice for any purpose.

Removing OpenOffice
-
Uninstall your current version of OpenOffice. Select "Start", then "Settings", then "Control Panel". Select "Add/Remove Programs", then "OpenOffice.org x.x" (the x.x represents a version number). Click "Remove". Follow the instructions on the dialog box that appears.
Uninstalling OpenOffice removes the program folders; your personal profile (located in the "Documents and Settings" folder) is unaffected. You can re-import these settings during re-installation.
Downloading OpenOffice
-
To get the latest version of OpenOffice, go to OpenOffice.org, select "Download" (150 megabytes). After downloading OpenOffice, locate the folder and click on the OpenOffice setup file (OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe or other name variation).

Installing OpenOffice
-
Choose the temporary folder to extract the files ("Unpack"). The installer guides you through the installation process. On the dialog box, select the features you want by selecting "This feature, and all subfeatures, will be installed on local hard drive".
Include the Java Runtime Environment under the "Optional Components"--this will repair corrupted files in the Java Installation. OpenOffice functions depend on the Java Runtime Environment. When prompted, choose "Create start link on the desktop," then click "Install." When the installation completes, click "Finish".
Post-Installation
-
After completing the installation, you can delete the temporary folder and the downloaded file. Restart your computer to clear out files that were in use during uninstallation/reinstallation process.
Reporting Issues
-
OpenOffice allows you to report issues to the OpenOffice Quality Assurance Team. Registration is required to allow those who work on the issue can communicate with you as needed.
When reporting issues, it is essential to include detailed information about the issue, any files and documents related to the issue, and a step-by-step recollection of the issue. To simplify problem-solving and to reduce issue duplication, one issue is allowed per report.
