What Are the Side Effects of Androsterone?
Androsterone is a steroid found naturally in males and females, but in smaller amounts in females and larger amounts in males. Androsterone is an anabolic steroid, used to build and grow muscles. The steroid is also available therapeutically, and abused by people playing sports or otherwise wishing to grow their muscles. Androsterone is available as a drug therapy and is also sold on the black market. The steroid has side effects for those using it therapeutically or to increase sports performance.

Androsterone is an androgenic steroid. Androgenic steroids are known for causing depression, aggression and suicidal thoughts or behaviors. Additionally, withdrawal symptoms are felt when use of the steroid stops. Also, people that use androsterone have been known to suffer hallucinations. Irritability is also a side effect of androsterone.
Organ Damage

Long term use of steroids, including androsterone, can cause permanent organ damage. Particularly, liver damage is associated with using androgenic steroids. Changes to the structure of the heart have also been seen.

Using androsterone can cause early onset male pattern baldness in men. Use of the steroid in woman can cause unwanted hair growth, as well as male pattern baldness. Particularly, facial hair is seen on woman that use the steroid.
Heart Issues

Use of the steroid can cause heart problems, including heart attacks. Also, increased blood pressure and cholesterol levels are seen in patients that use androsterone. An increased risk of cardiovascular disease in general is associated with use of the steroid.
Teen Abuse

Teens that use androgenic steroids experience stunted growth, increased acne and a speeding up of the puberty process. Teens can also experience the other issues associated with androsterone.
Other Issues

Other side effects of use of androsterone include jaundice, because the steroid is naturally produced in the liver. Infertility is also noticed. Males also can experience testicular shrinking. Appetite changes have also been noticed.
