Fujitsu Modem Problems
Modems establish an Internet connection between a computer and an Internet service provider. Owners of Fujitsu cable and DSL modems cannot surf the net or perform online tasks and activities without a properly functioning modem. Fujitsu modems are among the common models provided by various Internet service providers; however, they are still prone to issues that may prevent or limit Internet connectivity.

Types
-
Fujitsu has released two types of modems for Internet subscribers. The first release was the Fujitsu Speedport RA14, which consists of the modem and Speedport Modem Power Supply. The second is the Fujitsu Speedport DSL Modem RA12. Various ISPs across the United States have distributed this model to DSL subscribers. Unlike the Fujitsu Speedport RA12, the RA14 does not come with manuals, cables or a power supply--only the modem itself.
Problems
-
Both modem types are subject to problems, and among the most prominent include the inability of the devices to establish an Internet connection after five to six months of regular use. According to customer complaints, the power LED lights and the modem LED blinks, while the data LED flickers as it attempts to establish a connection, but goes out after a few seconds. This results in the modem being unable to properly establish an Internet connection, thus leaving owners unable to browse the web.

Causes
-
The main reason behind the inability of the modems to connect is the use of outdated drivers. Since a large number of users are using the less recent RA14 modem, a need arose for a driver update so that the modem can keep up with changing Internet connection requirements. The same applies to the RA12 modem, and because of this Fujitsu has released a firmware update to help the modems function properly. If the problem is not outdated drivers, the problem typically lies within the modem itself.
Repair
-
When fixing a Fujitsu modem you are experiencing problems with, you have to use another modem that is able to connect to the Internet so that you can download the firmware the company provides. Once you have downloaded the firmware, you can install it to update the problematic modem's registry. Different kinds of driver updates correspond to the different modem types; thus it is important to check which type you have before downloading the firmware.
Replacement
-
You can purchase Fujitsu modems as standalone products in various computer stores and shops. However, if you contact your Internet service provider, the technicians may be able to provide you with a new modem and troubleshoot your connectivity issues free of charge.
