Botox & Neck Pain Danger thumbnail
Neck pain can be troublesome after Botox injections

Injecting Botox is a cosmetic procedure that is done to enhance youthfulness and tighten the skin cosmetically. These procedures can include a brow lift, eyelid lift and a face lift. This procedure is usually safe, but in rare cases, it can cause pain and side effects.

  1. Background

    • Botox, or botulinum toxin A, is a neurotoxin. A neurotoxin is a substance that is poisonous to the body and can cause nerve cell damage in the person using it. Lead is an example of a neurotoxin.

    Numbness, Tingling

    • According to the Botox official web site, even though the injection process may not be painful and tends to be quick and simple, the aftereffects can prove to be damaging and painful. One example of a side effect is numbness or tingling in the neck.

    Swelling, Bruising

    • Another neck pain danger is swelling, bruising or possible redness around the area of the injection. These side effects may prove painful to the person who had the Botox injected, especially in the neck area.

    Neck Spasms

    • Because Botox is used to tighten the skin and make the skin and muscles appear more youthful, it can cause muscle spasms and pain. In the neck specifically, it can cause stiffness and limitations in motion.

    Warning

    • If you are experiencing any of these or other side effects after receiving a Botox injection, seek professional medical advice for diagnosis and proper treatment options.
