Daisy Air Rifle Repair

Many start with a Daisy

The Daisy air rifle, produced by the world's largest and oldest manufacturer of air guns, is the most famous BB gun ever built. Considering the number of guns sold through the years, repair has been and will continue to be a crucial aspect of service for Daisy Outdoor Products and its dealers.

  1. Daisy History

    • The original producer of Daisy air rifles was a windmill manufacturer called Plymouth Iron Windmill Co. While the company struggled during the late 1880s, an inventor named Clarence Hamilton introduced to Plymouth a contraption resembling a gun that fired a lead ball using compressed air. The company president, Lewis Cass Hough, exclaimed it was "a daisy," and thus was born the Daisy air rifle and with it, a change in name to the Daisy Manufacturing Co. in 1895.

    Daisy Today

    • With windmills long out of its production lines, the company moved to Arkansas in 1958 where it continues to prosper and grow. Daisy BB guns have become the way many of America's youth are introduced to guns, even as more models enter the market every year. Daisy has sold more than 9 million of its popular Daisy Red Ryder model, which was introduced in 1939. Today, Daisy sells more than 5 million items a year, the bulk of them air rifles.

    Repairs and Warranties

    • Daisy air rifles have one-year warranties from the date of purchase, meaning Daisy Outdoor Products will repair or replace such guns, free of charge, if found defective in material or workmanship. Procedures are defined for such claims. For guns out of the warranty period, in consideration of certain fees and specified procedures, Daisy will repair the gun or replace it with a reconditioned gun of the same model, if available (otherwise, with a model of similar quality).

    Easy-to-Repair Problems

    • While Daisy air rifle problems requiring repair are diverse, Daisy has recommendations for the common problems of jamming and leaking. For leaks, the company recommends replacing the seal that seats against the cylinder where the pin comes through. Daisy will provide replacement seals free of charge. For jamming, running a cleaning rod down the muzzle end of the barrel is recommended, but only after putting the gun on safety.

    Do-It-Yourself Gun Enthusiasts

    • Rather then send an air rifle back to Daisy, some owners prefer doing repairs themselves. While earlier models are less complex and easier to repair, the availability of parts may pose problems. A manual and tools may also become necessary. Manuals of current and more recent models (in English and other languages) are available from the company's customer service department or may be downloaded from the Daisy website.

    Repair Shops

    • Without experience, a manual, instructions and the proper tools, it is not easy to repair any air rifle. At times, a machine or a wood shop may be needed to make repairs. Visiting a gunsmith or a gun repair shop may be a good alternative to sending a Daisy air rifle back to the manufacturer. There are a number of full-service shops that specialize in air rifles.
