When used medicinally, clove oil can have numerous health benefits. Cloves are native to India and were used in ancient times to treat everything from skin ailments to blood disorders. Today, clove's antiseptic and anti-fungal properties make it a popular in-home remedy for many maladies. It's even considered to be an aprodisiac. Clove oil is especially good for treating bronchitis, asthma and other respiratory problems because it cools, soothes and has an anti-inflammatory effect. There are a number of ways in which you can use clove oil in your home to boost your respiratory health.

Diffuse clove oil in a diffuser, burner or vaporizer for up to 20 minutes at a time. The anti-inflammatory effect of the fumes from the clove oil will loosen respiratory passages, improving breathing and treating congestion and other respiratory problems.

Massage clove oil into the chest, sinuses or bridge of the nose to open breathing passages and aid respiratory health. If necessary, dilute slightly with water or carrier oil, such as almond oil, to reduce any burning.

Add 3 to 4 drops of clove oil to a glass of warm water. Drink like a tea once per day to aid with respiration and prevent illness or infection.

Mix 3 to 4 drops of clove oil with ginger juice and honey to soothe the pain of bronchitis and other harsh respiratory infections.
