Side Effects of Codral

Codral is a brand of over-the-counter cold and flu medications that is used to treat common symptoms. Some of those symptoms include headache, congestion, cough, and fever. They can be found in the form of liquids and pills. When used as directed they are safe to use. However, as with any medication, they do have some potential side effects. Some of these side effects include nausea, drowsiness, constipation, sleep complications and increased blood pressure. Before using any medication, consult your physician to make sure that it is safe for you to use. If the Codral medication you are using contains acetaminophen, avoid using alcohol as this can potentially cause liver damage.

  1. Nausea

    • The use of Codral medications may cause nausea to develop in some people. This is because the body will need time to adjust to the ingredients used in the manufacture of Codral products. In general, the body develops a tolerance to the ingredients a few days after beginning use. After the first few days of use, feelings of nausea should be minimal to non-existent. If the nausea continues after this period, consider alternate treatment options.

    Constipation

    • Constipation can occur from the of Codral medications. This generally occurs when a person who is already dehydration from illness takes the medication. Dehydration can lead to constipation. To avoid constipation while using this product, make sure to consume plenty of fluids and follow a diet that is high in fiber. For more bothersome constipation, use a laxative or stool softener for relief.

    Sleep Complications

    • The main ingredients found in Codral medications are Paracetamol (500mg),
Phenylephrine Hydrochloride (5mg) and Chlorpheniramine Maleate (2mg) that can cause sleep complications to occur in some people. The most common complication is insomnia, which sometimes is accompanied by feelings of anxiety. If you experience sleep complications from using Codral medications, consider using a different method of treatment.

    Drowsiness

    • The ingredients found in Codral products may cause some people to become drowsy (especially night-time formulations). To avoid drowsiness while using these products, only use the recommended dosage amount. Exercise caution while driving and operating heavy machinery in addition to allowing extra time for decision making. If the drowsiness is severe, contact your physician for treatment.

    Blood Pressure And Heart Rate

    • In some individuals Codral products may cause an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. Those with a history of high blood pressure or heart rate are the most likely to experience this side effect. If you are taking medication that controls your blood pressure, consult your physician before use.
