Condenser Dryer Versus Vented
When it comes to buying a dryer, the choice isn't always easy. There's a lot variety on the market, and many decisions to make. There are many things to consider when deciding between a condenser dryer and a traditional vented dryer. They perform the same basic function, but they are also significantly different in many ways. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Variety & Availability
-
Condenser dryers are far less common than vented dryers. Most appliance retailers carry a large variety of vented dryers, gas and electric. Condenser dryers are not often carried in stock, and only a very few models are even available to order.
You can select from many styles of vented dryers when shopping, and can have the dryer delivered on the day of purchase. Most condenser dryers have to be ordered, and you'll have to wait for them to come to the store.
Parts
-
Parts are less likely to be readily available for condenser dryers than for vented dryers. The parts, like the dryers themselves, have to be ordered or even back-ordered from a parts store. The parts for a condenser dryer tend to cost more than vented dryer parts, due to their more limited and special application.
-
Weight
-
Condenser dryers tend to be heavier than most vented dryers. This is because of the type of design and construction that's inherent in condenser dryers. Combination condenser dryers/washers are extremely heavy for their size.
Application
-
Condenser dryers can function in places that vented dryers can't. Vented dryers require nearby access to a venting location, and don't function well when vented improperly. Condenser dryers can function in almost any location in the home. Furthermore, vented dryers require a 240-volt plug; condenser dryers don't.
Summary
-
The best reason to buy a condenser dryer over a vented one is location. If your dryer must be in a place where venting isn't practical or possible, go with a condenser dryer. In all other aspects, a vented dryer is superior.
