Galvanized Steel
-
Metal roof can be made out of galvanized steel with a zinc coating designed to help eliminate corrosion. A roof of this sort is available in a variety of grades. It's the thickness of the zinc coating that determines which grade is to be used for a particular type of galvanized roof. The steel is sometimes painted for added effects and if this is the case it is recommended that G-60 be the minimum grade utilized for this roof type.
Aluminum
-
Metal roofs are made from aluminum as well. A chief characteristic of roofs made from aluminum is its ability to resist erosion. Whenever you use aluminum as roofing material it should always be painted, which helps it last longer. Another process aluminum roofing goes through is called anodizing, which consists of covering the aluminum with a type of chemical or acid coating. The process causes the aluminum to oxidize, which yields a resilient surface or coating that actually replaces the original aluminum surface. The end result is a hard shell or coating called anodized aluminum.
