Kentucky has several detox centers throughout the state. In 2005, an initiative called the Recovery Kentucky program began to address the drug and alcohol problems throughout the state. The goal of the initiative is to provide at least two detox centers in each congressional district, one for men and one for women

  1. Chrysalis House

    • Kentucky's oldest licensed detox center is the Chrysalis House. Founded in 1978 and partially funded by the federal government, the Chrysalis House has programs for both adults and children. Their rehab team includes psychologists, social workers, and certified drug and alcohol counselors. They offer vocational training and job placement, as well as counseling about credit options and housing to help program participants get back on their feet. According to the Chrysalis House, the program has a higher success rate than the national average for similar programs.

    The Liberty Place Recovery Center

    • The Liberty Place Recovery Center for Women is located in Richmond, Kentucky. "Peer support, daily living skills training, job responsibilities and challenges to practice sober living" are integral to the program's three tier model of success. According to the Liberty Place Recovery Center for Women, funding for the program comes from the governor's office. The program is free for women in their district, which is the sixth congressional district of Kentucky.

    Shepherd's Shelter

    • Shepherd's Shelter is a Christian detox center option in Kentucky, open to both men and women from the state and elsewhere. As a Christian option, Shepherd's Shelter uses a twelve step program based on principles of the Bible. According to Shepherd's Shelter, their goal is to treat the entire person with individually developed program tracks. Because social skills are necessary for real world success, interaction with peers is important in the treatment of program participants.

    The Healing Place

    • The Healing Place in Louisville, Kentucky focuses on individuals who are homeless from substance abuse problems. According to The Healing Place, they use methodologies that encourage program participants to find strength in God to overcome their addictions. The detox center has two separate campuses for men and women. The treatment differs somewhat between the centers because The Healing Place operates under the principle that men and women require different things to overcome addiction.

    Pathways

    • Pathways is a behavioral center that offers services for substance abuse patients. Located in Ashland, Kentucky, Pathways has been operating for over 40 years. According to Pathways, there are both inpatient and outpatients services, as well as programs for people suffering with addictions and mental disorders. The oranization also has specific programs for adolescents, women and domestic violence victims. Pathways uses both individual and group therapy, and promotes education on drug and alcohol abuse for program participants.
