Stranglehold PC Problems
Midway Games launched "Stranglehold," a sequel to John Woo's classic film "Hard Boiled," on PC and console systems in 2007. The game was a moderate critical success due to its cinematic tie-in, but the shortness of its game play and a number of release bugs led to bad publicity. The PC version of "Stranglehold" was released with many bugs, which were later overcome through simple fixes on users' systems or with the installation of Patch 1.1.
-
Cause of the Errors
-
According to Midway's Stranglehold Support site, some error reports were attributable to users' misunderstanding of what the game could do on a PC, as compared with the console versions. However, most of the errors stemmed from users' computer systems not meeting the minimum requirements for the game.
Background
-
PCs are not identical; therefore, it is practically impossible for a developer to release an entirely bug-free game for PCs. Following problems reported by the game's initial players, Midway released Patch 1.1 to fix minor bugs. These bugs included resolution and key remapping problems.

Minimum System Requirements
-
"Stranglehold" requires a powerful computing environment to fully appreciate the cinematic feel of the game. Therefore, if you are experiencing PC issues related to low frame rates, tearing or the game crashing to a blue or black screen, it could be a result of your system not meeting the minimum requirements.

Game Controller Errors
-
Unlike many Windows-based games, "Stranglehold" does not support gamepads, game controllers or joysticks. Instead, the game is meant to be played on the PC in third-person perspective using only the mouse and keyboard. As a result, many players believe this is an error, when it is actually how the developers intended the game to be played.
Resolution and Display Errors
-
Most display and resolution errors were resolved with Patch 1.1. But if you get a black or blue screen after game load, then you do not have enough memory installed for the game to run properly. Midway's support site says 2GB of RAM is needed for graphic stability.
On the other hand, if you have more than 2GB of RAM installed and still experience crashing, may be the result of an older NVIDIA graphics driver in need of updating. To update your driver and correct this error, visit the link provided in the Resources.
