Education

  • A variety of herbalist degrees can be obtained online. Education can last six to eight months or take two or three years for certain training programs with apprenticeships. Typical courses of study include human anatomy, nutrition, herbal, medical and botanical terminology and drying and storage of plants.

Careers

  • Herbalists can find employment as buyers, researchers, growers or consultants. Physicians occasionally hire herbalists, and teaching is an option for herbalists with several years of experience.

Salary

  • The salary for herbalists can range from $20,000 to $120,000, according to the American Herbalist Association. Self-employed herbalists could make $60 to $280 per hour; if employed by a health store, the rates may be $8 to $15 an hour; those working as sales representatives could make $24,000 to $75,000 a year, according to medical-career-training.com.

Considerations
