ASP Baton Vs. Pr-24

Developed for police as a means of protection, ASP batons and the Pr-24s are two of the leading batons on the market. While some might be marketed as weapons, their intended use is to provide protection for an officer.

  1. Facts

    • The most field-tested baton on the market, the Pr-24 is intended for blocking, controlling striking and combat protection. Comfortable and easy to carry, it was developed with a technology that allows for faster opening.
Armament Systems and Procedures Inc. is the manufacturer of the ASP Baton. Developed with high carbon steel and a zinc-coated finish, it is corrosion-resistant.

    Features

    • The Pr-24 is set apart from other batons by the side-handle. Just below the grip of the baton, a second piece of tubing is attached as a perpendicular handle to the main tubing, giving the user added control and greater variety of use.
The ASP Baton is constructed with spring loaded button joints that pop out through corresponding, pre-drilled holes, as the sections of tubing slide out to make the baton. The ASP is also made of heat-treated, forged carbon steel, to make sure the baton stays durable and reliable.

    Function

    • Batons are a nonlethal means of protection for law enforcement officers and are not meant for striking, bat rather for controlling an attack. Defense classes are taken strictly with the baton to ensure officers are clear in how to use the equipment.

    Identification

    • A sleek black chrome finish coupled with the unmistakable side-handle make the Pr-24 much different than other batons, including the ASP, which is a singular thinning tube with a riveted ball on the end.

    Considerations

    • Either baton is a valuable and dependable piece of equipment for law enforcement. ASP says its baton is the most widely used throughout the United States because its slim tube and locking mechanism make it a lower profile weapon. It's also easier to conceal. The Pr-24 is said to be the most widely field-tested baton on the market.
