Beauty Marketing Job Description


The beauty industry covers makeup, perfumes and personal hygiene products. This vast industry has many marketing opportunities. In beauty marketing, you have your choice of positions such as branding beauty products, training employees to present beauty products, creating marketing plans for beauty products and more. Job descriptions depend on the type of position being offered, what company the position is with and what type of product you will be working with.

Types of Jobs

  • Beauty marketers provide makeovers in retail stores (counter/line managers), sell beauty products to retail stores (account coordinators/managers), design strategic and marketing planning for a beauty product company (strategic planner/brand manager), or train employees how to set up beauty products and how to demonstrate beauty products to customers (trainers).

Nature of Work

  • The nature of the work depends on the type of position. If you work in strategic planning, brand management or as an account manager, you are working to make deals and sell your product to third parties who sell it to their customers. This type of position requires travel and a lot of social networking. It is fast paced and competitive with the best workers making the biggest sales and pulling off the biggest marketing strategies.

    If you work as a trainer, you do a lot of demonstrations on how to sell your products. You teach fellow employees where to place products in retail environments and how to demonstrate products to consumers and more. This job involves travel as well but is much more centralized into areas. As a counter manager, you work directly with customers demonstrating products. This job does not require travel.


  • In general, you work in either retail stores or in corporate offices of retail stores. For a trainer or a counter manager position, you are in the retail stores and on your feet for long periods of time. The clientele depends on the location and the type of store.

    For strategic planning, brand management or account management positions, you are working more behind the scenes in an office environment. Your co-workers are in similar positions to yourself. These positions could require a lot of travel.


  • Like all marketing positions, most employers require a degree from a four-year college in business or a related field. If a position does not require this, it might instead require a certain level of experience. In addition to a degree, many employers in the beauty industry require educational training in fashion or beauty merchandising. On-the-job training from a previous employer is also helpful.


  • To be successful in the beauty marketing field, you must possess certain skills such as the ability to be professional, outgoing and creative. You must have strong people skills, sales skills, communication skills, analytical skills and initiative. In addition, you must have an eye for trends, fashions and have the ability to forecast trends.
