Herbs to Remove Hair

Herbs to Remove Hair thumbnail
Unwanted hair can be anywhere.

Unwanted hair can be a nuisance. Many women, and even some men, prefer to remove hair from under their eyebrows, armpits and bikini area. As women age, they find thicker hair growing on their chins, and most women will tweeze, wax or use a chemical depilatory to remove it. You may prefer to use gentler herbal hair growth inhibitors preparations instead of harsh chemicals or irritating wax.

  1. Turmeric

    • A spice commonly used in Indian cuisine, turmeric also has a long history of use in health and beauty remedies. First you should shave, tweeze or wax the area you want to keep hair-free. Mix a paste of turmeric powder, lavender oil and aloe gel, and apply in a circular motion against the growth of the hair. Leave it on for about 20 minutes, and repeat three times a week for up to three months. You will notice your hair will grow back finer, slower and thinner. You may find your hair does not grow at all as long as you use the paste.

    Almond Oil

    • Almond oil is excellent for the health and beauty of your skin. It also contains constituents that inhibit hair growth. As with the turmeric remedy, use almond oil after an initial shave, wax or tweeze session. Repeat a few times per week and you will see a lessening of hair growth. Results vary from person to person, but most find they need to shave or tweeze less often over time.

Beefsteak Plant and Hare's Ear Root

    • These two plants, known by their Latin names Perillae herba and Bupleuri radix, have been scientifically shown to inhibit hair growth. Japanese inventors have applied for a patent for their formula containing these and other herbs. You can read about their work at freepatentsonline.com/7488499.html.

    White Pepper and Camphor

    • Fatfreekitchen.com has an interesting recipe for leg hair removal. Mix white pepper and camphor to make a paste. Add a few drops of kerosene and apply to your legs. Leave this mixture on for 10 to 15 minutes and wipe off the hair with a cloth. If you have sensitive skin, you will want to use caution. It's a good idea to test a small patch of skin first for irritation.

    Commercially Available Products

    • Many products claim to be "all natural" and "herbal" remedies for hair removal and growth inhibiting. Some of these include Gigi, Kalo, Ultra Hair Away, and Superfluous Hair by Roots Herbal. The Roots Herbal product, Superfluous Hair, is simply an herb mixture with aloe gel. It's as close to a do-it-yourself project as you can get without purchasing the herbs separately.
Read labels carefully and check for the ingredient thioglycollate or thioglycolic acid. Some so-called herbal remedies contain this chemical, which is the same active ingredient in regular commercial hair removers. The herbs they contain are simply soothers.
