Vehicles are equipped with a variety of devices that function together to help the automobile run smoothly. One of the most important components is the vehicle speed sensor.

Function

As the name implies, the function of a speed sensor is to collect information on how fast the vehicle is traveling. The speed sensor gathers this information by recording the rate at which the crankshaft is spinning.

Benefits

Speed sensors help with anti-lock braking systems. The sensor gives information to the braking system that allows it to determine the amount of pressure to apply to keep the car from skidding and slipping while braking.

Replacement

Speed sensors vary between car makes and models. In the event that a speed sensor needs to be replaced, it is best to consult the vehicle manual or a service professional.
