To ensure the safety and quality of different types of equipment, technology and processes, manufacturers must comply with local, state, federal and even international standards. Compliance engineers lead efforts that help companies comply with all the requirements necessary to meet these standards.
Compliance Engineer Responsibilities
Compliance engineers are hired to ensure a company's projects and processes meet legal, regulatory and quality control standards. For example, a compliance engineer working with robots ensures compliance with the standards of that industry, such as ISO, Low Voltage and OSHA guidelines. When problems arise, he conducts audits and analyses of all systems, presents his findings and recommends fixes. A compliance engineer might also develop and maintain compliance manuals. Senior compliance engineers help coordinate projects by collaborating with other departments to ensure the design and production standards are met.
Education and Requirements
The minimum education for a compliance engineer is a bachelor of science in a field of engineering related to the industry. For example, an aspiring compliance engineer who wants to pursue a career in robotic systems would seek a degree in mechanical engineering. To succeed in this occupation, you need an eye for detail, superb communication and leadership skills and in-depth technical knowledge.
