The people of the southern Appalachian area of the United States are not strangers to the uses of alfalfa. They have been using alfalfa to treat arthritis for quite some time, according to Herb Portal.
  6. Alfalfa Tea

  7. Alfalfa tea is a popular treatment for arthritis. Place one ounce of alfalfa in a tea pot. Pour a quart of water into the pot and allow the alfalfa to boil for 30 minutes. Strain the liquid. Drink one cup of tea every day for two to three weeks. Stop drinking the tea for seven to 10 days. Then start drinking the tea daily again for another two to three weeks. It's best to use alfalfa tea leaves rather than alfalfa powder, says Natural-Medicinal-Herbs. The powder has properties that can aggravate the joints.
  8. Alfalfa Seeds

  9. Alfalfa seeds can be used to make tea, as well. Add one teaspoon of alfalfa seeds to one cup of boiled water. Home Remedies Web recommends drinking three to four cups each day for about two weeks to manage inflammation. You can also add alfalfa seeds to such foods as a salad, sandwich, spreads, dips and cooked meals.

  11. Alfalfa can be taken as an herbal supplement to help reduce inflammation and stiffness of the joints and improve flexibility. In the article, Alfalfa: Reduces Pain of Arthritis, alfalfa supplements are praised for effectively treating arthritis. Alfalfa supplements are available from most health food stores in tablet, liquid and powder forms.
  12. Warning

  13. Natural-Medicinal-Herbs recommends those with arthritis avoid using alfalfa powder because it contains an amino acid that can lead to pain in the joints.
