HP recalled 74,000 battery packs installed in certain laptops, including the Compaq Presario V2000, on October 30, 2008. These battery packs shipped with laptops from December 2004 to June 2006 and may create a fire hazard due to overheating and subsequent combustion. Compaq Presario V2000 owners may contact HP for a free battery pack replacement.
The battery pack may not hold a charge if the BIOS is out of date. Flashing the BIOS may correct this problem. -
Some Compaq Presarion V2000 owners have discovered that audio does not work after reinstalling Windows XP. In these cases, it is critical that owners download and install the latest audio drivers.
HP also recommends that the V2000's BIOS be flashed with the latest version if the computer experiences hardware issues, including audio problems. -
The Compaq Presario V2000 is unable to play DVDs on both the laptop screen and on an external monitor simultaneously due to limitations of the graphics card. To play a DVD on an external monitor, the computer owner must adjust settings and set the external monitor as the primary display. This problem exists in both Windows XP and in Windows Vista.
Corrupt graphics, game crashes and software lock-ups may be caused by out-of-date drivers. V2000 owners can prevent graphics issues by installing the latest drivers. -
Compaq Presario V2000 laptops that have been updated to Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) may alter the keyboard layout from Japanese to English (US) when using Quick Launch software. HP has issued an updated version of the Quick Launch software, which fixes this issue.
The Presario V2000 may no longer offer the User Guide after the owner performs a full system recovery. The User Guide can be found online and on the CD titled "Documentation Library" or "Notebook Documentation." -
There are many error messages that Compaq Presario V2000 owners may encounter when starting the computer. Outdated hardware drivers create some of these error messages, including the agrsm.sys error message and accompanying blue screen. Updating the modem drivers can correct this problem.
Viruses and anti-virus software can be the cause of other error messages. Symantec's Live Update software must be updated or removed if it creates a "ccApp.exe is not responding" error message upon start up. A csrss.exe error message can be caused by a Trojan, which must be removed with anti-virus software.
