LSI Technology Inc. is a technological and computer manufacturing company based in Milpitas, California. LSI is one of the world's largest producers of information storage, network and semiconductor equipment. LSI Inc. has numerous administrative and production facilities throughout the world--primarily in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The company's acronym on the New York Stock Exchange is "LSI."

  1. Early Years

    • LSI was founded as LSI Logic in Milpitas, California, in 1981. By 1986, the firm had developed a standard product line of 32-bit and 16-bit computer processors, the type of which would become commonplace in products and systems developed during the global personal computing boom in the late 20th century.

    Partnership with Sony

    • In 1994, LSI partnered with the Sony Computer Entertainment to create a microchip and software program for the PlayStation video game system. Five years later, the two firms joined forces again to create a specialized processor for the second generation PlayStation.

    DVD-R Innovations

    • LSI Inc. is one of the world's foremost producers of DVD-R technologies. The company's "DoMiNo" line of processors can be found in nearly half of the DVD recorders in the global market. The DoMiNo processor has earned numerous software industry awards.

    Additional Technologies

    • LSI also produces components found in numerous portable media players, set-top television boxes, high-definition monitors and professional video production and broadcasting equipment.

    Philanthropy

    • The company's philanthropic arm, LSI Philanthropy and Community Enhancement, focuses on providing funding and tutorial support for elementary- and high school-level math and science, in the United States and abroad.

    Recognitions

    • In 1997, LSI received an Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for its development of a motion estimation encoder for General Instruments Corp. In 2007, Sun Microsystems proclaimed LSI Inc. as the Best-in-Class Supplier, in recognition of its record of delivering superior technology, quality service and excellent value to its customers.
