Side Effects of a Gallbladder Flush

Cleansing and flushes are used by many to remove toxins and buildup from the body and organs. A poor diet is often to blame for lack of energy and concentration, as well as organs being overworked, thus preventing them from doing their proper functions. A gallbladder and liver flush cleanse the organs of stones and other buildup.

  1. Function

    • A liver and gallbladder flush remove harmful toxins from the organs, as well as reducing the amount of toxins sent out into the bloodstream. Once toxins enter the blood, they flow to other important organs like the lungs and kidneys, burdening them as well.

A liver and gallbladder may become clogged by a poor diet filled with fats, processed and preserved foods and preservatives. Environmental pollution may also cause toxins to enter the body, as well as stress. A positive side effect of a gallbladder flush is a renewed sense of energy, as well as healthier organ function.

    Use

    • Before you begin a liver and gallbladder flush, drink eight ounces of apple juice two days before the cleanse at two- or three-hour intervals. This will help the liver release toxins, making the flush more successful in removing gallstones.

During a flush, you will drink an Epsom salt mixture, which cleanses the digestive tract and gallbladder of any formed stones. This will continue for one day, ending around mid-afternoon the following day. Two hours after your final serving of salt mixture, you may begin to eat. Start off with only liquids, and then eat fresh fruit before moving on to regular foods.

Avoid going anywhere during your gallbladder flush, since you will need to use the restroom frequently after drinking the salt mixture.

    Frequency

    • A liver and gallbladder flush may be done as often as desired; however, wait one week in between each flush to start another one.

    Side Effects

    • Before you begin a liver or gallbladder flush, check with your doctor to prevent any complications from doing a flush on your own. Stones that are too large may have difficulty being passed, causing intense pain to you as they travel. Check with a doctor to see if you have gallstones and what size they are before you do a flush.

A side effect of the gallbladder flush is diarrhea, which is caused by the salt mixture. Gallstones are often removed through the bowel movement. Some individuals remove just a few gallstones, while others may see many more. If you only see a few, try another gallbladder flush the following week.

    Benefits

    • A flush is beneficial because it removes stones and toxins from the liver and gallbladder, purifies the blood and the lymphatic system, and it improves bile flow and liver function.
