Canon 8600F Vs. 8800F
The 8600F and its replacement, the 8800F, are film/negative scanners from Canon that can help you digitally archive all your old film strips and 35mm slides. Once they are digitized, it is easy to make prints from the digital scans. Both can also act as flatbed document scanners or picture scanners.

Both the 8600F and 8800F have a 4800 x 9600 color dpi resolution and can scan 48 bit color, which gives the scanner a possibility of 281 trillion colors for accurate digital reproduction of your negatives.

Autofix

The 8600F and 8800F both have built-in retouching technology that helps removes dust and spots from old negatives and prints. The 8800F also adds an Autofix feature to help achieve even faster, better scans.
Energy Star

The 8800F is Energy Star rated and part of Canon's Generation Green program, ensuring more environmentally friendly products. The 8800F has a smaller LED that gives it no warm-up time and lower energy use. Generation Green also assures the scanner can be recycled or refurbished as it approaches the end of its life. In standby mode, the 8800F only uses 1.5 watts, while the 8600F uses five watts.

The 8800F is a little smaller than the 8600F. The 8600F measures 11.3 inches wide, 4.9 inches high and 18.6 inches deep. The 8800F is 10.7 inches wide, 4 inches high and 18.9 inches deep.

Both scanners come with a variety of image processing software, including Adobe Photoshop Elements, ArcSoft PhotoStudio, NewSoft Presto! PageManager and ScanSoft OmniPage SE OCR4. The 8800F also includes MP Navigator EX, which lets you copy, scan and e-mail scanned images, or create .PDFs with them.

The 8800F scans substantially faster than the 8600F. The 8600F has a scan speed of 6.8-67.5 msec/line (milliseconds per line) for film; for documents, it can scan at 6.9 msec/line at 2400 dpi and 13.8 msec/line at 4800 dpi. The 8800F has a scan speed of 1.5-36.3 msec/line for film; for documents, it has a speed of 6.1 msec/line at 2400 dpi and 12.1 msec/line at 4800 dpi.
